About this site
The site is designed using a 12-column grid and a baseline grid of 9px, but mainly used in 18px blocks except for the smallest of elements such as the text on the left. The layout is fluid, meaning that it will expand or contract to fill the width of your screen.
This site is designed with some fonts not usually installed by defalt, but will degrade gracefully if you don't. If you don't have the fonts installed, you can view a screenshot of the site on the right.
All copy apart from the main body copy is designed to optimally use the sans-serif font Chevin which I picked for the combination of a technical, industrial, look with a friendly, smooth feel. It is also a very legible font at small sizes, which is important for the left-hand column. Recently you may have noticed Chevin being used by the Royal Mail in their poster work. I chose Aldus, a serif, for main body copy as its crisp feel complimented the industrial look of Chevin. It is based on the hugely popular Palatino font, but is designed to be more suited to body copy.
This website was built using the Silverstripe CMS, a highly customisable system with a user-friendly content editing section for easy end-user amendments, and makes extensive use of JQuery for animation and sound. I have tried to avoid Flash where possible to allow as much functionality as possible for the majority of users.
Thank you for your interest in the nitty gritty!
Matthew
